This course will concentrate on effective ways to interpret, understand, and properly implement NIST 800-53v4 security controls. The course is taught from an implementation expert’s point of view. Students will learn to prioritize security controls and communicate security controls to other stake holders such as the development, operations, and management teams. The course is designed to arm students with knowledge and skills needed to properly implement security controls timely and correctly. The course will consist of lectures, discussions, hands on exercises, videos, short quizzes, and a security control implementation competition the last day of class. This course is not intended to cover all phases of the Risk Management Framework.  NOTE:  This course will be delivered in a hybrid format. Classes will meet in person or online using WebEx. The first class session will meet in person and the instructor will provide a schedule of in person and online class sessions.
