Program Description:
  • This comprehensive and fast-paced entry-level program is intended for the person who has never worked in healthcare and is looking for a new career skill set. Medical billers and coders (also called health claims specialists) are responsible for processing insurance claims for healthcare facilities and physicians' practices. As a medical billing and coding specialist, you’ll work to bridge the gap between doctors, insurance companies, and patients. This course requires you to have a strong understanding of the English language.

    This program meets the necessary requirements to take the National Healthcareer Association (NHA) – Certified Billing and Coding Specialist (CBCS) exam, this program will not prepare you to sit for the AAPC, CPC or AHIMA exams. Textbook and NHA exam voucher are included in the tuition.  No other certification exam can be substituted in this program.

    Chromebooks, iPads, or mobile phones are not supported.

Please read:  Learn@Home & On Campus (Hybrid - Instructor-led): This class has multiple schedules and locations. The class meets mostly online in real-time via Zoom on the days and times listed on the class schedule as NOVA Workforce Online Class. Class meets on campus for the final exam only, on the day, time, and location listed on the class schedule. Please complete the required “NOVA COVID-19 training” before coming to campus. This training is available on your CANVAS dashboard. Follow these instructions on How to access myNOVA and CANVAS.
