Course Description:

This entry-level course builds on the foundational skills learned in NCCER Core and introduces the knowledge and hands-on skills needed to begin training in the electrical trade. NCCER Electrical Level 1 is the first level of NCCER's Electrical curriculum and provides training applicable to residential, commercial, and industrial electrical work.

Through classroom instruction and supervised hands-on activities, students will develop foundational skills in electrical safety, electrical theory and circuits, electrical systems and components, conductors, raceways, electrical drawings, and the use of electrical test equipment. The National Electrical Code® (NEC®) is incorporated throughout the curriculum to introduce students to the codes and standards used in the electrical industry.

Students who successfully complete all required NCCER module assessments and performance tasks will earn the NCCER Electrical Level 1 credential. This credential provides a foundation for continued NCCER Electrical training and can support entry into electrical employment and apprenticeship opportunities.

  • Fundamental skills used in residential, commercial, and industrial electrical work
Prerequisites:
 
Students must have earned the NCCER Core credential before enrolling in this course.
 
Included with Tuition:
 
The course, NCCER instructional materials, hands-on lab activities, required NCCER assessments, and credentialing. No other certification exams or credentials can be substituted in this program.  Note: The textbook is assigned to students on or by the first day of class and is non-refundable once assigned.
 
What is Expected:
 
  • Attend at least 80% of all scheduled class hours and complete any other requirements established by the program.
  • Successfully complete all required NCCER module assessments and hands-on performance tasks to earn the NCCER Electrical Level 1 credential. Attendance alone does not qualify you to earn the credential.
  • Participate in supervised hands-on lab activities.
  • Wear long pants and closed-toe work boots or sturdy shoes appropriate for a construction lab environment.
  • Wear safety glasses and other required personal protective equipment (PPE) as directed by the instructor.

This is a FastForward Program: FastForward provides short-term training for industry-recognized credentials in high-demand fields. Eligible Virginia residents pay only one-third of the full tuition cost. To qualify, you must meet Virginia domicile requirements (living in Virginia for at least one year with the intent to remain). A domicile form is included in the registration process. Funding is limited and awarded on a first-come, first-served basis.
