SHRM-CP (Certified Professional)
- Designed for entry-level to mid-level HR professionals and individuals entering the HR field.
- No prior HR experience or degree required (HR knowledge and experience are strongly recommended).
- Focuses on operational HR, including implementing policies, supporting employees, and managing day-to-day HR functions.
SHRM-SCP (Senior Certified Professional)
- Designed for experienced HR leaders in strategic roles.
- Recommended for professionals with 6+ years of HR experience performing strategic HR work.
- Focuses on developing HR strategy, organizational planning, policy development, and leading HR initiatives.

Before registering for the course, all students must complete the SHRM Intake & Eligibility Form. This form is used to confirm that you meet the SHRM exam requirements and are prepared to participate in a credential-focused FastForward program. Sitting for the industry certification exam is an expectation for FastForward programs.

HR professionals seeking a comprehensive review before sitting for the SHRM-CP® or SHRM-SCP® exam will find this course an ideal fit. Offered through NOVA Workforce in partnership with the Society for Human Resource Management, this 36-hour instructor-led program provides the knowledge, skills, and guided preparation needed to earn one of the most respected credentials in the HR profession.
The course is built around the official SHRM Certification Prep System, which generates a personalized study plan based on each student's current knowledge and adapts as they progress. Students work through the full SHRM Body of Applied Skills and Knowledge® (SHRM BASK®) using online learning modules, study flashcards, and topic cards, then test their readiness with 2,700+ practice questions and a timed 134-item practice exam. A SHRM-certified instructor guides students through the material, integrating real-life examples, and keeps them on track for exam day.
Students should anticipate spending an additional 36 hours of study time outside of class.
What is Expected
- 70% Attendance: Attend at least 70% of all scheduled Instructor-Led Training (lecture) hours and complete all assignments and requirements set by the instructor.
- Quiz & Pre-test Completion: Complete all pre-tests and quizzes in the SHRM Certification Prep System to support exam readiness.
- Quiz Performance: Earn an average of 80% or higher to demonstrate exam readiness.
- Timely Application: You must apply with SHRM by the application deadline. Application guidance is provided during the course.
- Exam Eligibility: Applicants must meet SHRM educational and work experience criteria at the time of application to be eligible to sit for the SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP exam. Exam eligibility requirements can be found on SHRM’s website.
- Exam Prep Time: Use the 14-day Independent Study period after the instructor-led portion to study and prepare for the exam.
- Sit for the Exam: Sit for the SHRM Exam within the next SHRM Testing Window.
Important: The SHRM application deadline is December 6, 2026 (subject to change). You must apply with SHRM by this date. You are expected to sit for the exam in the SHRM Test Window: Dec 1, 2026 - Feb 15, 2027. The included exam voucher is valid only during this testing window.

This is a FastForward Program: FastForward provides short-term training for industry-recognized credentials in high-demand fields. Eligible Virginia residents pay only one-third of the full tuition cost. To qualify, you must meet Virginia domicile requirements (living in Virginia for at least one year with the intent to remain). A domicile form is included in the registration process.
