Course Description:
Instructional Mode: Learn@Home and On Campus (Hybrid – Instructor-led)
This entry-level course provides foundational knowledge and hands-on skills for students interested in construction and the skilled trades. NCCER Core is a nationally recognized curriculum that serves as the foundation for NCCER craft-specific training, including Electrical, HVAC, Plumbing, Welding, and other skilled trades.
Through classroom instruction and supervised hands-on activities, students will develop essential skills in construction safety, construction math, hand and power tools, construction drawings, basic rigging, communication, employability skills, and materials handling.
Students who successfully complete all required NCCER module assessments and performance tasks will earn the NCCER Core credential. This credential provides a foundation for continued NCCER craft-specific training, such as NCCER Electrical Level 1 or NCCER HVAC Level 1, as well as entry-level employment and apprenticeship opportunities in the skilled trades.

Prerequisites:
None. This course is designed for students entering the construction and skilled trades fields and provides the foundational skills needed to continue into NCCER craft-specific training.
Included with Tuition:
The course, NCCER instructional materials, hands-on lab activities, required NCCER assessments, and credentialing. No other certification exams or credentials can be substituted in this program.
Note: The textbook is assigned to students on or by the first day of class and is
non-refundable once assigned.
What is Expected:
- Attend at least 80% of all scheduled class hours and complete any other requirements established by the program.
- Successfully complete all required NCCER module assessments and hands-on performance tasks to earn the NCCER Core credential. Attendance alone does not qualify you to earn the credential.
- Participate in supervised hands-on lab activities.
- Wear long pants and closed-toe work boots or sturdy shoes appropriate for a construction lab environment.
- Wear safety glasses and other required personal protective equipment (PPE) as directed by the instructor.

This is a FastForward Program: FastForward provides short-term training for industry-recognized credentials in high-demand fields. Eligible Virginia residents pay only one-third of the full tuition cost. To qualify, you must meet Virginia domicile requirements (living in Virginia for at least one year with the intent to remain). A domicile form is included in the registration process.
Funding is limited and awarded on a first-come, first-served basis.
