NOVA Workforce Course Proposal Process

Thank you for your interest in NOVA Workforce! Our team has been leading regional efforts to develop and offer a range of demand-driven courses to the northern Virginia region for decades. We welcome new course proposals that are aligned with the mission of our division.
About NOVA Workforce
NOVA Workforce courses are designed for the adult learner. Each year, more than 10,000 students enroll in our courses to advance their careers. Our courses are conveniently offered on all five of NOVA’s main campuses and at the Reston Technology Center. All of our courses are directly tied to labor market demand and are required to align with industry-aligned certifications and skills. Our students expect a high-value classroom experience and learning from instructors who are subject matter experts in the field. Courses may be offered in a variety of formats, including workshops, seminars, semester-long, or boot camp formats.
Proposal Process
Submit a proposal online. All proposals are reviewed by a selection committee. Should questions or further clarification be needed, you may be contacted by the committee for an interview. If your proposal is selected, our program development team will work closely with you to finalize all details, logistics, and compensation to offer the course. If your proposal is not selected, you will be notified by e-mail and we will continue to hold your proposal on file. Incomplete proposal packages will not be reviewed.
When considering a proposal for a new course, our review criteria include:
  • How will the proposed course address a gap in current or future programming?
  • In what way(s) does the proposed course align with the mission of the College and NOVA Workforce?
  • How will the proposed course complement current non-credit or credit programs?
  • Is the proposed course widely offered in our service area?
  • Is the proposed course aligned with labor market demand?
  • Have we offered this course previously and what was the success rate?
  • What is the marketability of the course?
Proposal Due Dates
We review new course proposals three times per year. The deadlines are as follows. If the deadline is missed, we will review for the following semester:
For Fall Semester: February 1
For Spring Semester: June 1
For Summer Semester: October 1
To be equitable, we will only review course proposals through the process outlined above.
