FastForward Eligible Program: To qualify for financial assistance for FastForward programs you must meet the Virginia domicile requirements. Virginia "domicile" means you have lived in Virginia and intended to stay here indefinitely for at least one year prior to the date of application. Program Description:
  • The Medical Assistant curriculum prepares students to become valuable members of the healthcare professional team, of prime importance in helping physicians respond successfully to a rapidly changing environment.  As assistants in the clinical setting, students will learn to perform duties such as vital signs, exam room preparation, patient data collection, simple dressing changes, lab tests, phlebotomy, medication administration, and EKGs.
  • During certain portions of the course, you will experience blended learning opportunities.  At the instructor's discretion there may be non-face-to-face time throughout the course to complete assignments and projects.
  • Upon successful completion of the course, you will sit for the National Healthcareer Association (NHA) Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) national examination.
Clinical Externship Description:
  • There is an optional 160 hour clinical at a local medical practice that commences upon successful completion of the course and all drug screening, criminal background and immunizations are complete.  Please read the student handbook for further details.
Admission Requirements:
  • Must have a High School Diploma, GED, college degree or English 101 or 111. Non-native English speakers who have graduated from a high school or college outside of the United States must complete the ACCUPLACER test. See the student handbook for further details.
  • Must be able to obtain a clean drug screen & criminal background check in order to participate in the optional externship
  • Must meet the technical standards requirement of the program - See Appendix A in the student handbook
