This FREE Information session is required for students interested in registering for the Advanced Certified Nurse Aide (ACNA) Certification Course. Upon successful completion of this course, you will receive an email verifying your eligibility to register for the ACNA class, and additional information about how to obtain any financial assistance eligibility to use to pay for the ACNA class.
 
Admission Requirements: 

Follow these steps to complete your orientation and register for your healthcare course:

Step 1: Determine your eligibility. You must:
  • have access to required technology (see technology requirement).
  • be 18 years or older.
  • have 2 forms of identification.
  • must be a current, unrestricted Virginia Certified Nurse Aide for three (3) years or longer.
  • must have a letter of recommendation from a nurse who has supervised the student as a CNA for at least 6 months in the last 1 year.
  • must have all necessary vaccinations/titer and health records (MMR, Varicella, TDaP, Hepatitis B, Covid 19 and booster, Influenza (seasonal), and Negative PPD or Chest Xray within the last year) prior to registering for the ACNA training class. *Students will be dismissed with penalty (no refund) if records are incomplete at end of the first week of ACNA class.

Step 3: Complete all information session tasks for the ACNA course.
  • Log on to myNOVA and select CANVAS. You will see the ACNA Information Session listed in the Courses section and on your CANVAS Dashboard. Note that it may take up to 24 hours after registration for the class to be available in CANVAS. See How to access myNOVA

Step 4: Register for your ACNA course.
  • After you have completed the orientation and submitted all required documents, you will receive an email with instructions on how to register, access available financial assistance, and/or pay for your class.
  • Students employed by or wishing to be employed by a CMS accredited Nursing Home may be eligible for private scholarship generously offered through the Advanced CNA Grant, awarded to LeadingAge Virginia by the Virginia Department of Medical Assistance Services (DMAS) with funding from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) Civil Money Penalty (CMP) Reinvestment program. An additional application for scholarship funds is required.
  • Students must complete Viewpoint Compliance ($75- not included in Course tuition) prior to the first ACNA Skills lab. Please see the Information session for more information.
 
Technology Requirement:
  • All students need access to the internet and a computer with a webcam and microphone. Chromebooks, iPads, or mobile phones are not supported.
