Learn@Home: Online, on your own time
12-hour asynchronous training program that prepares nurses eligible by Virginia Board of Nursing (VBON) requirements to teach Nurse Aide (NA) programs.


Who is eligible:
  • Registered Nurses (RNs) with at least 2 years experience in the last 5 years and 1 year of geriatric long-term care direct care experience as an RN.
  • Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) with at least 2 years experience in delivery of direct care to geriatric clients in the long-term care environment as a nurse.

Program description and Certification info:
12 Hours of coursework in:
  • Basic principles of adult learning;
  • Teaching methods and tools for adult learners;
  • Evaluation strategies and measurement tools for assessing student learning outcomes;
  • Review of current regulations for nurse aide education programs;
  • Review of the board-approved nurse aide curriculum content; and
  • Review of the skills evaluated on the board-approved nurse aide certification examination
  • An additional section is provided for NOVA employees only (not required for course completion for non-NOVA faculty)
 
This class will be held asynchronously, online with Instructional support via Zoom as needed. 

A certificate of completion will be provided to meet the requirements of the VBON NA Trainer training for approval to teach in a VBON-accredited NA program.

This class will be held asynchronously, online with Instructional support via Zoom as needed, and is open for rolling admission from August 18, 2025, to November 15, 2025. Students must complete training within 4 weeks of class registration or by December 15, 2025, whichever comes first. Discounts are available for VCCS partner schools.
