This class is 6 hours of course work and must be completed no later than May 1, 2026.

Learn@Home: Online, on your own time

Who is eligible:
  • Nurse Aide Instructors who have previously completed a 12+ hour Nurse Aide Instructor training program and have been previously approved to teach by the Virginia Board of Nursing. Instructors are to complete refresher training every three years. (18VAC90-26-30. Requirements for instructional personnel) (Virginia Board of Nursing, 2023, pp. 5-7)

Program description and Certification info:
6+ Hours of coursework in:
  • Module 1: Review of current regulations for nurse aide education programs and Nurse Aide practice.*
  • Module 2: Review of the board-approved nurse aide curriculum content.*
  • Module 3: Review of the skills evaluated on the board-approved nurse aide certification examination.*
  • *Module 4: Required for NOVA Faculty Only (Annually) and includes: Mandated Reporter Reading, Activity, and Assignment as well as submission of a recorded teaching demonstration.*  
This class will be held asynchronously, online with Instructional support via Zoom as needed. 

A certificate of completion will be provided to meet the requirements of the VBON NA Trainer REFRESHER training for continued approval to teach in a VBON-accredited NA program.

This class will be held asynchronously, online with Instructional support via Zoom as needed, and is open for rolling admission from January 5, 2026 to April 20, 2026. Students must complete training within 4 weeks of class registration or by May 1, 2026, whichever comes first. Discounts are available for VCCS partner schools.
