Course and Certification Exam Requirements:
To qualify for the PMP exam, the Project Management Institute (PMI) requires you to meet one of the following pathways:
 
  • A four-year degree (or global equivalent) AND
    • 3 years of experience leading and managing projects within the past 10 years
    • 35 hours of project management training (this course will fulfill this requirement)
OR
  • A high school or secondary school diploma (or global equivalent) AND
    • 5 years of experience leading and managing projects within the past 10 years
    • 35 hours of project management training (this course will fulfill this requirement)

Before registering for the course, all students must complete the PMP Intake & Eligibility Form. This form is used to confirm that you meet the PMP exam requirements and are prepared to participate in a credential-focused FastForward program. Sitting for the industry certification exam is an expectation for FastForward programs.
 
 
Course Description

Instruction Mode: Learn@Home: Instructor-led, Live via Zoom and CANVAS

The PMP® Exam Preparation course is a comprehensive, instructor-led training designed to prepare participants for the PMP® certification exam. Delivered over 35 contact hours, this course satisfies the PMI requirement for formal project management education.

Students should anticipate spending an additional 35+ hours outside of class to study for the exam and complete the quizzes.

The course is aligned to the PMP Exam Content Outline, and includes stakeholder engagement, leadership practices and business value delivery. Instructors will deliver content and provide real-world scenarios, allowing students to develop the knowledge and practical understanding needed to manage projects effectively and approach the exam with confidence.

Participants will gain a strong foundation in:
  • Predictive, agile, and hybrid project management approaches
  • PMI’s PMP Exam Content Outline (ECO)
  • Exam strategies and application support

Who Should Enroll

This course is ideal for:
  • Professionals with project leadership experience seeking PMP certification
  • Individuals who meet PMI eligibility and want to strengthen their exam readiness
  • Learners who need to complete the 35 hours of formal education required to apply for the PMP exam 
 
What is Expected

To successfully complete the course and qualify for the included exam voucher, students must meet the following requirements:
 
  • 100% Attendance: Attend 100% of all scheduled class hours and complete any other requirements set by the instructor. Full attendance is required to earn the 35 hours of project management education.
  • Quiz Performance: Earn an average score of 80% or higher on Canvas quizzes to show exam readiness.
  • PMI Knowledge Check: Complete and pass the Knowledge Check on the PMI Partner Platform to receive a certificate of completion.
  • PMI Account: Create a PMI.org account. Registered students will receive instructions to set up their account, which is required to access the class materials and begin the exam application process.
  • Timely Application: Apply for the PMP® Exam within 14 days of course completion. Application support and guidance is provided during the course.
  • Experience Documentation: Meet PMI’s work experience eligibility criteria. Students must document this experience when submitting the PMP application. Details are available on the PMP Certification website.
  • Sit for the Exam: Sit for the PMP® Exam within 45 days of completing the course while the material is still fresh.

This is a FastForward Program: FastForward provides short-term training for industry-recognized credentials in high-demand fields. Eligible Virginia residents pay only one-third of the full tuition cost. To qualify, you must meet Virginia domicile requirements (living in Virginia for at least one year with the intent to remain). A domicile form is included in the registration process. Funding is limited and awarded on a first-come, first-served basis.

Financial Assistance (FANTIC/G3) may cover the student portion (1/3 of the tuition), reducing your cost to $0. Complete the Financial Assistance Survey to see if you qualify. Learn more about FastForward.

The Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is approved for Credit for Prior Learning for the following classes at NOVA: ITP 170
